Organic Shincha is the earliest green tea of the year, made from the very first flush of spring leaves. Grown organically in Shizuoka, these vibrant young leaves are rich in nutrients accumulated over winter, delivering a brighter, sweeter, and more floral profile than regular Sencha. Exceptionally fresh and grassy, Shincha is a fleeting seasonal delicacy, harvested in limited quantities and available for pre-order each spring.

ORGANIC SHINCHA FIRST FLUSH GREEN TEA

Shincha (New Tea 新茶) is the tea taken from the very first pickings from the Sencha harvest. The season begins in April in the more southern tea-growing regions and later in May, further north. Shincha from our organic plantation will be available from late April to early May depending on the weather conditions. Our customers can pre-order here so we can reserve stock from the limited amount available.

Because the leaves are the first picked all the nutrients that are stored in the plant over the winter months are released into the first leaves. Much sweeter and floral than regular Sencha, full of aroma and grassiness.

How to make this tea ?

How to make Matcha tea the Japanese way - Ocha & Co.

Why not try drinking Japanese Matcha the traditional way using a bamboo whisk called or Chasen in Japanese and a bamboo scoop or Chashaku? Just follow the instructions in the illustration above using only hot water and nothing else. For drinking matcha straight with nothing else added, a high quality Matcha such as our Kyoto Uji or Single Cultivar Matcha are perfect as they do not have any of the aftertaste or bitterness of lower quality teas. Vary the amount of water added to make it stronger, 'Koicha', or lighter, 'Usucha' depending on how you like to drink it.

TIP:Take a break from what you are doing, slow down and savor the flavor and aroma of your matcha drink. Focus on the day ahead. Sipping from a matcha bowl or 'Chawan' will heighten the experience.

Just when you thought tea couldn’t get any better I discovered Shincha

I have a better quality of life incorporating Shincha tea into my daily routine. I get a nice boost of energy without the jitters. I have several different types of tea from Ocha & Co, and this is the best I’ve ever had in my life. The customer service service here is superior.

Not bad but doesn't measure up to the better Shincha I've had

This is a decent tea but it has a flavor that is more dry and mineral than I tend to prefer and expect from a good Shincha. My comparison point here is an example of this season's harvest from Okouchi, which a bit more round, vegetal, and full-flavored, while remaining somewhat lighter than say a deep Gyokuro. The Okouchi tea is slightly more expensive, but not by much, and side by side it definitely wins. However this Shincha is also enjoyable, especially if you prefer a more dry, "clean" cup.

Earthy and refreshing

I love this organic shincha green. I purchase exclusively from Ocha and Co because I have not found any other tea producer that offers the same superior quality, reasonable price, and delicious taste. I love Japanese green tea and the shincha is a new one for me but a fast favorite. I order it every time I get tea from a Ocha and I hope they continue to cultivate this one. It’s very light and easy to drink, but if you steep it a little longer it’s nice and strong and robust. Great for iced tea too.

Excellent crop

Each year, I await the shincha and am sad if I am not quick enough to get my hands on it. This year is stellar, with low astringency and sweet flavors. There is always the essence of a sea breeze in the delicate flavors.
