Or how much green tea can I drink per day?

We sell our Japanese green tea because we are proud of its quality, taste and freshness. But we also receive enquiries from people interested in drinking tea as a healthy beverage and one of the most common questions we tend to receive is, “How many cups of green tea can I drink per day?”

I expect people are interested in imbibing as much of the healthy antioxidants as possible to maximize green tea's health benefits commonly but without overdoing the caffeine.

Here at Ocha & Co, we usually have a cup in our hands at most times, but doctors do advise drinking from three and five cups per day.

The level of caffeine in green tea is not enough to harm you, particularly given that it contains less than coffee (30 to 40 mg per cup of green tea compared to 95 to 165 mg per cup of coffee). Butt too much caffeine for those sensitive to it can induce anxiety, irregular sleeping pattern, stomach discomfort, and headaches.

If you are worried about the amount of green tea you should be drinking daily, then it would be best to consult your doctor for advice and especially so if you are an expectant mother. High levels of caffeine are to be avoided in pregnancy.

However, if you are sensitive to caffeine try to avoid drinking green tea by 3 p.m. in the afternoon and if the urge takes you switch to low caffeine alternatives like Hojicha or Kukicha.

Hojicha is a roasted green tea low in caffeine - great in the afternoon!
